A cyberattack on Intoxalock's backend systems in early March 2026 disrupted calibration services, preventing drivers from starting their vehicles across multiple states. The Des Moines-based provider halted system availability starting March 14. Drivers unable to complete mandatory monthly calibrations risked vehicle lockouts if they missed their designated windows.
In Connecticut, Intoxalock indicated that seven to ten percent of users were directly affected by the outage. While the company authorized local service centers to grant ten-day calibration extensions, these accommodations did not apply to every interlock model or every state's regulatory framework.
Ignition interlock devices require regular maintenance to remain compliant with state laws. Drivers must clear random retests and visit service centers, sometimes paying tow fees or facing temporary lockouts if they miss an appointment. The company pledged to cover costs incurred due to the temporary system pause.
Systems resumed operations on March 22, allowing installations and calibrations to proceed normally. Despite the operational restoration, users on social media platforms such as Reddit expressed frustration and began organizing class-action lawsuits against the provider.
